Feng Shui Nine Periods, Three Cycles
Time is a crucial factor in the Flying Stars technique.
The Qi in nature rotates in Cycles (One Great Cycle = 180 years), Periods (one Period = 20 years; nine Periods combine into one Cycle), and lastly, years.
The previous change came in Period 8 (2004), with the next change expected by the arrival of Period 9 in 2024.
The changes of Periods affect the general strength and favourability of each Flying Star.
Every new year empowers – or diminishes – specific Stars, simultaneously affecting the energy patterns existing within the property.
One great 180-year cycle comprises of three sixty-year cycles.
Each sixty-year cycle consists of the three twenty-year smaller cycles: Upper, Middle, and Lower.
The table shows that we are currently experiencing Period 8, which will last until 2024 when Period 9 begins.
ONE GREAT CYCLE (180 years)
UPPER Cycle
Period 1 started in 1864; the related Trigram was Kan, Water.
Period 2 started in 1884; the related Trigram was Kun, Earth.
Period 3 started in 1904; the related Trigram was Zhen, Thunder.
MIDDLE Cycle
Period 4 started in 1924; the related Trigram was Xun, Wind.
Period 5 started in 1944 (no Trigram).
Period 6 started in 1964; the related Trigram was Qian, Heaven.
LOWER Cycle
Period 7 started in 1984; the related Trigram was Dui, Lake.
Period 8 started in 2004; the related Trigram is Gen, Mountain.
Period 9 starts in 2024; the related Trigram will be Li, Fire.
