The 5 Elements in Feng Shui: How They Shape Your Life

Feng Shui 2025

Understanding Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water

The Five Elements are within us and present in every aspect of our environment. They shape the landscapes, from the mountains and rivers to buildings and roads. For example, Earth-type mountains, called Ju Men, are believed to bring wealth to an area. However, a property must be positioned correctly to receive this beneficial energy.

How The Five Elements Interact and Affect Your Space

The Five Elements interact in two fundamental ways: creating and supporting each other or controlling and diminishing each other. This dynamic relationship mirrors human interactions and life, constantly evolving and shifting. We also influence the Elements; for instance, a new building can alter the energy dynamics of its surroundings, affecting the lives of the people in the vicinity.

Balancing the Five Elements in Your Home

There are no universal methods for balancing the Five Elements, as their strength and influence vary depending on the environment. The most significant Elemental impact comes from the landscape and surroundings, making it crucial to assess window and door placement—the primary entry points for Elemental energy. Before making adjustments, one must first determine the dominant Elements affecting the space and how they interact with the energy of its occupants.

Feng Shui book review

“I am always on the lookout for new Feng Shui books to add to my collection. I must say I’m quite happy impressed with this book. It is so comprehensive and it reveals many of the secrets that I learned from taking expensive live Feng Shui classes that I had paid big bucks for in the past few years. This book is written so methodically that would make it easy for a beginner to follow and learn from. To me, this book has far greater value than the more expensive books from other authors that I have bought previously based on its contents and the level of knowledge it imparts to its readers. I almost signed up for an expensive online class offered by a famous classical Feng Shui master and I ‘m glad I didn’t because this book covers exactly the same topics which that online class offered. I saved almost $1950 by buying this book instead. If I am to teach a Feng Shui class in the future, I will definitely use this as my class textbook.”
