Feng Shui Bagua, part 1

Bagua (pronounced: “Bah-gwa”) made Feng Shui a trendy method. 

Unlike classical feng shui, a complex and layered system for land and property analyses, Bagua practitioners use a general and simplified version of a standard feng shui tool—Bagua. This is why we distinguish between Bagua practitioners and classical or real feng shui practitioners.

So, what is Bagua, and can it help us to live better lives?

Bagua is a template that provides practitioners with insight into clients and their spaces. Imagine a tic-tac-toe board, a grid of nine squares, superimposed on the floor plan of your home, office, or business. This grid, or Bagua, maps your space’s energy, each square symbolizing a different direction/location. 

Let’s delve into what people typically imply that each area of the Bagua symbolizes:

1. SOUTHEAST – Wealth: Represents prosperity and finances.
2. EAST – Health & Family: It is about physical and mental well-being and familial relationships.
3. NORTH – Career: This is the area related to your professional path.
4. NORTHEAST – Knowledge & Personal Development: It’s about learning, skills, and personal growth.
5. SOUTH – Fame & Reputation: Embodies recognition and achievements.
6. SOUTHWEST: Love & Partnership: Illustrates love, marriage, and close relationships.
7. WEST – Children & Creativity: Represents offspring, creativity, and fulfillment.
8. NORTHWEST – Helpful People & Travels: Symbolizes synchronicity and timely opportunities.

Bagua consultants use their imagination and general Feng Shui knowledge to recommend different methods to their clients. For example, if someone wants to enhance their wealth, the Bagua practitioner may suggest modifications to the Wealth area of their space. This can include placing a money plant, a three-legged turtle, an image of wealth, or Chinese coins. 

Some practitioners advise clients to align the Bagua map with their goals and needs. For instance, those seeking to enhance their careers can be asked to place the Bagua map in the Career section of their home or office (e.g., North) and then activate it with relevant symbols and cures. The activators are related to the sector’s Element (the Five Elements).
